Are you celebrating your treasures daily?

Sometimes we fixate our minds on something and feel we cannot live without it. We try hard to obtain it day after day (don’t get me wrong, usually when this one thing is obtained, the next one appears on the radar and the whole story starts all over again). We agonize each time we think we might loose that thing or cannot obtain it. It starts ruling our lives. The pain of not having this particular object or person or feeling kills our joy step by step every day. Most of the time our obsessive mental grasping evades our radar’s detection and behold one day we realize we are living our days in complaint, unhappy, maybe even depressed. We cannot seem to find a reason to be happy or even worse to live. Everything becomes hard and we struggle to get by.

If this is you, caught in this daily carrousel propped up and promoted by everything that surrounds us, starting with advertisements, movies and social media, I want to propose a change in mindset. I propose a run for freedom and a return to happiness. Why don’t we just change the lens we are seeing life with?! There is always something missing from life. It will always seem that we don’t have everything we want. However, imperfection is what makes life as intriguing and beautiful as it is. You never know what will happen next: will it be a good or a bad surprise… ?! This being said, we need to make the conscious effort of choosing helpful thoughts. Happiness is not something that will just “walk into our lives”. It is also not something that is someone else’s responsibility to give us. Complaints and focussing on problems will never ever bring us forward in anything. But what it will do, is make us loose energy and make life seem even harder.

Have you ever noticed how much energy people have when they are just entering a relationship and they are in love? They can move mountains, they laugh all the time. It might seem even silly to others sometimes. Why is that? Are they supermen and superwomen over night? No. They simply see the bright side of life and they solely focus on that and are so very happy. The same can be applied to any of us, if we but give ourselves some grace and a couple of minutes every day, if we but count our treasures, our daily blessings.

We need to put things into perspective. What might seem so terrible to us might be someone else’s blessing. So, take time daily to appreciate what you have in life. Write a short list of things you appreciate, you are grateful for. “Force” your mind to find the good in your life, teach it to see it. Then write down 3-4 things that went well that day. Soak all of these in. They are your life. You have a beautiful life (if you choose to see it so and make it so). Repeat this ritual every day. You can also do it twice a day, if you are really committed to yourself and ready to put the time into it. You will see your mind shifting step by step and it will learn to identify even more beautiful things that will make you happy. You will discover a side of life which was unknown to you.

Trust the process. It might sound boring or too long, but trust me it isn’t. We need almost a month before our brain can integrate a new habit. Just stick with it. It cannot harm you and it is better than medicine.

Have an amazing day!

Love,

Raluca
